Chanda
Kochhar was born on 17th November 1966 in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. She is the
managing director (MD) and chief executive officer (CEO) of ICICI Bank. She is
responsible for ICICI Bank's diverse operations in India and overseas. Along
with her responsibilities for ICICI Group, she is a member of the Prime
Minister's Council on Trade & Industry, the Board of Trade, High-Level
Committee on Financing Infrastructure, US-India CEO Forum and UK-India CEO
Forum. Kochhar is also a member of the boards of the Indian Council for Research
on International Economic Relations, National Institute of Securities Markets,
Institute of International Finance and International Monetary Conference. She
was co-chair of the World Economic Forum's Annual Meeting in 2011.
Education
In
1982, Chanda Kochhar completed her graduation from Jai Hind College as Bachelor
of Arts. She then pursued Cost Accountancy from ICWAI, and later went ahead to
complete her Masters Degree in Management Studies from Jamnalal Bajaj Institute
of Management Studies, Mumbai. During her studies she received the Wockhardt
Gold Medal for Excellence in Management Studies and the J. N. Bose Gold Medal
in Cost Accountancy for scoring the highest marks in the same year.
Career
Chanda
Kochhar started her career in 1984 as management trainee in ICICI bank and
continued till 1993. In 1993, she became part of core team as Assistant General
Manager and later in 1996, she became Deputy General Manager of ICICI bank. Her
dedication and hard-work resulted in continuous promotions and she succeeded as
Deputy Managing Director in 2006.

From
2009 till present Chanda Kochhar is flourishing in her career as MD & CEO
of ICICI bank. She is among the most powerful and successful women all over the
world. Currently, Kochhar heads the Corporate Centre of ICICI bank in Mumbai.
Awards
and Honors
Chanda
Kochhar was awarded as "Retail Banker of the Year 2004 (Asia-Pacific
region)" by the Asian Banker. In 2005, The Economic Times honoured her as
"Business Woman of the Year" and in 2006, Retail Banker International
offered her "Rising Star Award". Since 2005, she is consistently
being figured in Fortune's list of "Most Powerful Women in Business"
e She was featured at 25th position in 2008. In 2009, she debuted at number 20
in the Forbes "World's 100 Most Powerful Women list" where in 2014
she is at 43rd position. In 2010, Kochhar was honoured with Padma Bhushan
Award, the third highest civilian honour by the Government of India for her
services to banking sector.
